This is what I’ve been up to this week…

Lately, I’ve been into rereading books. Last week I reread the first 3 books of the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. I was craving a dose of Jace. At some point I will reread the fourth book in this series and then read the fifth and sixth for the first time. The sixth book is to be released in 5.27.14, according to her website. You can check out the latest with Cassandra Clare here.

I’m still working on my Contemporary Romance. My word count is up to 42,000. I’ve decided once it’s done and ready to send off to the editor, I’m going to jump right back into finishing book #2 of the Senior Year series. I’m not sure which I will release first.

Phtography. It has always interested me and my main character for my Contemporary Romance is a photographer. Specifically the work of Ellen Von Enwerth

Last week I had a really bad cold and I spent the time drinking tea and reading. This week I’m back to the writing cave.

This is what I’ve been up to this week…

I am reading “Playing Patience” for the second time. I really loved this book the first time I read it, so I decided to read it again. I love the main characters Zeke and Patience. The story has a terrific beginning and the same intense feelings carry throughout. If you haven’t read it yet, I’d recommend it to anyone who loves YA Romance.

I’m working on a contemporary romance I started during the summer. Taking a break for a few months from the story has given me fresh eyes. Now all I need to do is sit down and finish it. I’m hoping to have it completed in time for summer reading.

Real students. My Spanish 4 students.

My friend Lee Rowland over at PearTreeSpace has redone my cover for Summer Love. I loved my original cover, but I wanted a more contemporary look for the new year. Once again Lee did an amazing job, accomplishing exactly what I’d envisioned.

Happy New Year

Greetings followers! I want to wish you all a happy new year! May all of your wishes and dreams come true in 2014.

2013 was filled with revelations and I’m sure 2014 will be too. The most important thing I learned last year is to believe in myself. In June I asked for the rights to my book “Nowhere” back from Muse It Up publishing and self published it instead. Finally, my writing career took off. I love being my own boss. I am completely in control of all decisions and have the final say in everey aspect. I am the only one who I can blame for my successes and failures. That being said, this year I learned how to ask for help when needed and trust the “experts.” Jennifer Sommersby was my editor for “Summer Love” and she offered me valuable insights into my writing. She helped me flush out my characters and bring them to life on the page. Thank you Jenn. I would also like to thank Lee Rowland for her artistic talent in creating a beautiful new cover for “Nowhere.” Lee can be found at Pear Tree Space.

I hope 2014 brings not only revelations but inspirations as well. I am currently working on a contemporary romance novel that I’m excited to finish. Once it’s complete I am jumping into Senior Year book #2 – “Falling Into You” set to be released in August 2014.

Please check back with me throughout the year to see how 2014 turns out.

What I’m Reading

I am reading “Love Exactly” by Cassandra Giovanni

What I’m Writing.

I’m writing a New Adult/Contemporary Romance Novel entitled, “Breaking All the Rules.” Currently I’m at 14,000 words. I wrote 2,000 words yesterday.

What else I’ve been up to

Shopping. Getting my girls ready for Camp Stella Maris. I don’t remember needing so much stuff when I went there. Although some things don’t change–I dragged my trunk there 30 years ago too. Next, we will be doing back-to-school shopping.

What inspires me right now

A post I read by Cassandra Giovanni. She talks about her goals and how she has reached them. I should think about setting specific goals. She sounds so busy, yet she gets it done. Sometimes I feel like I could do more.

Tuesday’s Top Ten–Research

Today’s top ten is a list of research questions for my current project. Research for any author is on-going. The questions below range from essential to trivial. If you have any answers or suggestions to where I might find the answers, please leave a comment.

1- What is it like to be an only child?

2- What college would someone attend in NYC who wanted to pursue a computer science degree?

3- What is it like to be a college student in NYC?

4- What is a popular, or maybe not so popular, cafe in or near Greenwich Village that has a small collection of board games?

5- What is a popular bar in NYC where college students hang out at?

6- Would it make sense for a photography major to minor in graphic design?

7- Cameras- digital and old school

8- All things Paris

9-What is a nervous tick other than running your hand through your hair?

10- How long would it take someone to complete a Sudoku puzzle who did them regularly?

What research are you currently working on?

Author Bio

Cassandra doesn’t remember a time when she wasn’t writing. In fact, the first time she was published was when she was seven years old and won a contest to be published in an American Girl Doll novel. Since then Cassandra has written more novels than she can count and put just as many in the circular bin. Her personal goal with her writing is to show the reader the character’s stories through their dialogue and actions instead of just telling the reader what is happening. In 2012 she became a published Young Adult author, releasing In Between Seasons (The Fall, #1) and Walking in the Shadows. In 2013 she branched out by using her artistic illustrating talents to publish her first Children’s novel, The Adventures of Skippy Von Flippy: Tales of Friendship (Skippy Tales, #1). Cassandra will also release her first New Adult novel, Just One Cup, in the Spring of 2013.

Cassandra is a freelance professional photographer known for her automotive, nature and architectural shots. She is the owner of Gio Design Studios, a photography and publication marketing company that designs covers and marketing materials for authors utilizing the company’s photography. She is currently studying to receive a degree in Marketing. Cassandra is happily married to the man of her dreams and they live in the rolling hills of New England with the other loves of her life their dogs, Bubski and Kanga.

Emma Walker was a writer who’d lost herself to someone else’s anger–who had given up on ever feeling like herself again.
Evan Levesque was a rock-god–the one all the woman wanted, but he’d never gotten used to the loneliness between the stage and real life.
With just one cup of coffee they’ll begin a journey of self-discovery at each others sides, but can Emma handle Evan’s fame while dealing with her own demons? Emma’s checkered personal past, a bad relationship that haunts the edges of her memories, threatens to make everything implode on them when Evan takes matters into his own hands.
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but your words…they’ll destroy my soul–Can Emma handle being put back together and facing who she’s become because of it?

Writing-Related Questions:

What is your latest news?

I just published my first New Adult novel, Love Exactly. It hit number 1 in books on relationships within the first week of sales and is getting great reviews. I’m amazed and flattered by the success of this novel!

When and why did you begin writing?

I don’t actually remember when I started writing, nor does anyone else in my family. If you ask them they just say I was always writing. I just love it, it’s a part of who I am–there’s really no reason why; it just is.

How did you come up with the title?

There are several scenes in the book where the subject is mentioned. It’s a strong thread throughout the book, a much stronger one than it’s original title, Just One Cup. It was originally titled this because the characters meet each other over just one cup of coffee.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

The events are very loosely based on events in my own life. The exact details are fictional, but the feelings and emotion are my own.

If Hollywood made your book into a movie who would you cast as the leads?

Evan Levesque would have to be Adam Levine. Emma Walker would be played by Ashley Greene. Alex Walker, Emma’s dad, would be played by Steve Martin, while her mother would be played by Jamie Lee Curtis.

What do you do during your free-time when you’re not writing?

I do photography, play with my dogs, draw, make jewelry and do Zumba. I also have an odd obsession with designing advertisements and flyers.

Miscellaneous Questions:

If you could have breakfast with anyone past or present who would you choose, and why?

Jane Austen–she’s one of my idols because of her amazing sense of humor and great writing.

If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?

The ability to heal.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Driven, Determined, Honest

If you could choose any vehicle to drive, what would it be, and why?

AUDI TT, because it’s amazing, beautiful and all-wheel drive…
